The
Capital Marine Modellers’ Guild was represented at the Ottawa Boat Show
(February 20-23, 2020) at the EY Centre at 4899 Uplands
Drive near the airport. The show centres on powerboats, fishing boats
and cruisers, pontoons, canoes and kayaks. Billed as the largest boat
show in the region, the halls were filled with powerful, sleek hulled
boats, streamlined to minimize air and water
resistance. They were polished and chromed to look as spectacular as
possible. Even more spectacular were the prices; ranging from $25,000
to $500,000. About one third were pontoon boats. Around the edge of
the hall were booths of the equipment suppliers;
docks, batteries, flags and other supplies. In our own corner we were
paired with the Ottawa Remote Control Club. Various members contributed
models (finished and in-progress), tools and displays. Ed and Dave also
gave demonstrations from time to time.
